"Sinigami no Seido" is an exceptional tale of life and the prospect of death. This movie consist 3 stories intertwined, producing startling results. Takeshi Kaneshiro (Battle of the Red Cliffs) takes the leading role as "the grim reaper- Chiba". Although he is there to merely observe the protagonist of each story, Chiba finds himself getting more involved with his clients than he should. This shinigami is conscietious of the living, to the point of falling in love himself. Chiba’s approach to handling situations is something that his side-kick (the telepathic dog) seen at his side, usually questions.

As morbid as this movies’ theme, I must say "Takeshi’s" comedic charm keeps it from becoming somber. His facial expressions and ignorance regarding the most commonly used terms, such as… "picking up" (a woman) and understanding (or rather misunderstanding) metaphors such as… "a runny nose" were both endearing and hilarious.

Overall, "Shinigami no Seido" is an excellent watch. From the beautiful cinematography, excellent cast and an intriguing plot, this movie will one day be a classic. I welcome everyone to see it, even the harshest critic..
