Description: "FLOWERS" covers the lives of six woman whose lives span a period of three generations (from the Show period all the way through to the present day). Starting in the 1930's, Rin (Yu Aoi) is worried about her arranged marriage that her parents setup. Eventually Rin has three daughters: Kaoru (Yuko Takeuchi) - who tragically loses her husband in a car accident, Midori (Rena Tanaka) - a career woman who becomes shaken by a marriage proposal, and youngest child Sato (Yukie Nakama). In the 1960's Sato gives birth to Kanna (Kyoka Suzuki) and Kei (Ryoko Hirosue). In the present day, Kanna is now worried about becoming a single mother. The lives of these woman are portrayed with beauty and grace.
That's how life goes on - says Kanna's dad :)
Be patient!!! that’s my caution if you decided to watch this movie. A slow pace story and that you just have to be attentive - first to the time / year when the scene is shown and what it’s all about and next - who is who in this long winded story.
Ha ha!!! I only understand this better when I read the synopsis coz I am totally lost once the movie is finished. I get it that the grandmother Rin finally agreed to marry the one arranged by her parents and thus live with her parents in law at the Endo House?
This is the house that Kaoru & Midori went back to for that festival and Sato arrived a day later. But in one of the scene when the papers of the book written by that old man flown away coz the door was open, I thought this scene was also at the same house and how come Midori was there to collect the manuscript if this the house of her family? or is that old man her dad? he he! hope the next review can verify this?
anyway, this is a philosophical story to me and the flashback again and again is rather confusing. But having said that I did shed some tears believe it or not when Kei found her mom’s note to both her and her sister Kanna.
Oh well… what happened to Kaoru and Midori in the end we were not "told" here except that must be one of the aunt in the very beginning and upon refelction, Kanna & Kei’s dad must have lived with his mother in law = grandmother Rin since their mother, Sato died?
go on, try and have a go ok! share your thought too.
