This movie completely misses the charm of the manga. I do not expect the story to be exactly the same. But sorry, it still does not cut it.

For those who have not read the manga or watch the j-drama version. Here is the detour.

The story is NOT about a boy lives as a pet (as obviously as it can be), or how cute he is (he is though cute), or how good he is at dancing. It’s about a career woman who is lonely, insecure, self-conscious despite being smart, beautiful, successful. She couldn’t cry, or show her real side to her boyfriend or open up to people around her. Not until a pet came in the picture. To a pet, she doesn’t have to appear strong, feel conscious about making more money, smarter, taller than her boyfriend, she can just be herself. And that’s pet just happens to be a cute boy who sees that side of her and becomes to love her. There was some point, in manga and j-drama, I was convinced that the boy was a real pet.

So the story is off. The directing is chopping, jumping from one to another. There is no real chemistry since there’s not enough storyline. If you think there is, you’re in denial or just being delusional.

Save your soul. Go watch the j-drama or read the manga. (gosh, I start to hate korean remakes).
