Perhaps every fangirls’ nightmare is seeing their favorite idol get married, but let’s get real, it WILL eventually happen.
Papa Wa Idol (Papadoru) is so funny that I don’t give a shit if Ryo marries someone like Yuka in this drama. So, all haters, if you hate Yuka (so bad), then don’t watch it (and miss one of the funniest J-dramas this season.)
Far from his usual dramatic roles, Ryo as "Ryo" in Papadol is funny to the extreme (Okay, not so extreme). He looks so cute and so in love with Haruka, more lovely is when he calls her "Haru-chan" and he makes that "puppy eyes" smile.
The beginning let’s us see the typical idol’s life, a 24-hour commitments here and there that it’s like the only free time they have is to eat and pee. Moreover, they also have to endure being back stabbed by those who thinks that idols are not actors. However, they are still human and they do go to 24 hours convenience store to buy ramen for their dinner…
Ryo and Haruka’s first meeeting doesn’t really get-off with fireworks. Haruka, being the mother that she is, looks at Ryo with nurturing care after that ‘incident’. But their second meeting is different. It was quite funny that she still hasn’t recognized who Ryo is and asks if he has a cold that’s why he was wearing a mask. Love how naive she is, especially when she spelled Ryo’s name as "Wa-Ta-Do" instead of Nishikido.
Ryo and Haruka’s pairing looks promising ,even though Haruka really looks old. Okay, I know she’s supposed to be 6 years older than Ryo in this drama, but still…
On a lighter note, the supporting characters are too awesome not go unnoticed. Haruka’s children, starting with Mei (Kawashima Umika from Bloody Monday, Fujimaru’s little sis), who is all grown-up and pretty, I think that she will be paired someone from Jumisho very soon. Then, there’s the versatile little kid from Zenkai girl- Tani Kanon as Kana. Kana and Mei together is a strong force to reckon with. Mei has a point of her objection from having Ryo as their stepdad, I do agree that Haruka might be "ganged-up" by those crazy fangirls once the news is out the papa Ryo is married. Then, there’s Kana, who only uses Ryo to get closer to Sho (who could forget the "get me Sho-kun’s autograph" line to prove Ryo’s loyalty.)
Then there’s Kanjani8 (omggg….Okura!!!)! The guys seems to be just playing-around in this drama, they are so funny to the core. It makes you see how deep their bond is.
I like the way how they watch for each other (like backing someone up in case of trouble). I don’t think they are actually acting, I think that the guys are just being themselves, which is good and realistic enough.
Of course, let’s not forget the ‘cameo’ appearance of Arashi’s Sho Sakurai and Ohno Satoshi. Although, I think this won’t be the last of Sho (seriously, with Kana’s fan-girling, there will be more Sho appearance, even in pictures while A-RA-SHI plays in the background). Ohno was really funny that he kept asking for Maru until the end.
I really hope (and more hopes) that there will be more Johnny’s talents who will be doing a cameo, not because it will be awesome, but because this is a story of an idol’s life, right? So, more Johnny’s idols please!!!
Episode 1 looks promising enough. It already establish enough conflicts to keep the plot going…Moreover, it’s just hilarious and it’s like watching a reality show of your favorite idol. I gladly recommend this to everyone who won’t take Ryo and Yuka’s love angle too seriously..
