You can not watch this movie while thinking of the more recent Hana Yori Dango remakes…This version is much older and is a movie not a television show which means they had a limited time amount…I personally LOVE this version of HYD/BBF, they don’t go into dramatic detail, there is no overbearing mother, kidnapping, or kindergarden obbsession, this version is about Domyouji, Makino, and Rui. Plus Domyouji is played by Tanihara Shosuke, who is SUPER cute and only has like three scenes where he is actually wearing a shirt. Fujiki Naohito plays Rui, and as if it needs to be said, he is still as good-looking as EVER!! Makino is played by Uchida Yuki, she is really cute and is a very different kind of Makino, very tomboyish, but loveable… Of course some aspects are the same in every remake but this is the only remake I have ever watched that leaves me completely happy. Usually I am always crying over poor Rui and how he is always alone, never quite over Makino, but in this version that is not the case…Rui smiles…I am not going to tell you why…but just watch it…You do have to keep in mind that this film is a 1995 production, and that can not be held against it!!!When it first came out, it was ranked Japan’s 3rd highest movie seller in history!!! So that tells you it has to be worth something right!!! Anyway sit back and watch, you won’t regret it!!!.
