Before I go to my actual review, let me first say this: I’m quite a big fan of Zettai Kareshi. I liked the changes made, and I loved Moko-chan. However, I was frustrated with Riiko since she generally hated Night 3/4 of the whole series. The actress is cute, but I thought Riiko deserved all her unhappiness because of her rude manners and relatively selfish personality.
That said, let me share my thoughts so far regarding this Taiwanese adaptation…
Contrary to the J-dorama, this version follows the manga more closely. Xiao Fei (Riiko) is portrayed by Goo Hye Sun as bubbly, quite sweet, and pleasant. Although many thinks she’s not good, Hye Sun’s aegyo (cute) moves seem to fit well with the role. She accepted Night as reluctantly as her manga counterpart but not as sourly as the dorama Riiko.
Night, played by Jiro Wang, is as warm and human as the manga character. Well, as human as a robot can get anyway. Jiro serves as a replacement to Wu Chun, but I think it is better to have him playing as Night since he has a warmer, more caring personality that fits the role.
Zou Shi (Soushi), played by Kun Da, seems to be more timid and shy, but he certainly follows how the manga character acts.
I’ve yet to see the deeper side of the other characters like Mei Jia (Mika) and Wu Wu (Gaku), so for now, I can generally say that this drama is promising and a treat to those who loved and wanted the Jdorama to be more like the manga. Also, since they used names that sounds like the original, it will be relatively easy for anyone new to the drama to know who’s who..
