So far, so great. Continuing the current sageuk trend started by The Princess’ Man and Tree with Deep Roots, The Moon Embracing the Sun is off to a solid start.

Plot: Two Suns. Two Moons. This is the story of The Moon Embracing the Sun. It centers around the fate of the the fictional King Lee Hwon, Prince Yang Myung (his illegitimate older brother) their first love Heo Yeon Woo, who alledgely died yet reappeared years later with a new identity as Wol the shaman and Yoon Bo Kyung (The Two-faced Queen). On the sidelines are the political conspiracies, collosal secrets and the games of destiny ... This drama incorporates my favourite elements in a drama: heart-warming scenes, heart-breaking intensity, sageuk-flavoured, romance and fantasy. It’s all in one, so what else are you looking for?

Cast: There’s only one reason why I would watch a sageuk : the Cast. Starring Kim Soo Hyun (Dream High, Giant) as Lee Hwon was enough for me to watch this drama, but if you add Jung Il Woo (High Kick, 49 Days, Flower Boy Ramen Shop) as the Casanova-yet-very-considerate Prince Yangmyung ... then, COUNT ME IN. Then there’s Han Ga In (Super Rookie, Witch Ma and FYI, she’s the wife of the Vampire Prosecutor) as Yeon Woo-turned-Wol.  And to wrap it up, Kim Min Seo (Baby-faced beauty and Sungkyunkwan Scandal) to play the role of an innocent-looking yet sly Queen. Apart from that, the first six episodes stars the sensational young actors who got me utterly hooked to this drama !

Cinematography: Shot with a high-quality camera, this drama has a smooth editing and fantastic directing where it can be humourous and cute in one second and intense and cruel the next.

I just watched the first twelve episodes and I’m totally rooting for The Moon to Embrace the Sun…

P.S. This drama is based on a novel of the same name, written by Jung Eun Gwol, who also wrote The Lives of Sungkyunkwan Confucain Scholars where Sungkyunkwan Scandal (My favourite Sageuk Drama so far) was based on.
