Sure, everyone loves happy endings nicely presented w/ a bow on top… but in real life that just doesn’t always happen. The acting is top-notch in "Mother", particularly w/ young Ashida Mana who has already won several prestigious Awards, I have a feeling that this girl’s just getting started at only 6 yrs old. Some call her the new Japanese "Dakota Fanning" but I’d say she has a much more natural aura to her than Fanning ever did. This one’s a DEFINITE Tear-jerker, so have your Kleenex ready… No sugar-coating in this visceral J-Drama that has moments of complete shock as well as tremendous hope that endures past the rolling end credits of the poignant final episode..
