Man-Su a man who is going through a lot in life. He is a man who not only suffers from occasional physical beatings from his hyung or lawn sharks. He suffers some mental anguish as well from all the suffering he is surrounded in. The only sanctuary he had was to finally be institutionalized in a mental ward. Were the hopes of getting back the real Man-Su begins. We often ask, why does a person have to go through this type of situation in life. We could see, in the last part of the movie, there is a sliced of true happiness for both our characters. Man-Su remembers his happy life, when that picture of him and his brother was taken. They are not rich, both are working in the shop, but contented to go on with life with their mother. And the nurse, dreaming a happy life with her father cancer free. How I wish they could at least have those in the future, tranquility.
Hyun Bin, brought raw emotion as he portrays a man beaten by life itself. There’s no doubt on the talent he has an actor to portray a character in such a honest way. He dives into it, and doesn’t look back. I admire him, because he doesn’t stick to commercial or mainstream movies, (because that’s the easy thing to do) but goes on about picking roles where he could experiment on roles that could sharpen his talent as an actor. I think that’s what a true artist does..
