Description: Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4's bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school. Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a 'tough weed'. She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa. The series is based on the Japanese shoujo manga "Hana Yori Dango" (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko.

One of the best dramas you will find is here in HYD. Straight from the popular manga/anime, HYD is a story of love, inspiration, laughs and is without a doubt one of my favs, if not my favorite. HYD has an all star cast, so much that it’s hard not to just like this drama by who is in it. Inoue Mao really makes her breakthrough in this drama despite being off and on in dramas since 1992 as her portrayal of Makino Tsukushi. Matsumoto Jun "Matsujun" (Gokusen, Bambino!, Smile) and Oguri Shun (Gokusen, Summer Snow, Crows Zero) are reunited in this drama as two of the F4 members in which they are perfect for. The other F4 members are played by Matsuda Shota (Atsuhime, Liar Game) and Abe Tsuyoshi (Initial D Movie, Zettai Kareshi) get their breakthrough roles here and hold their own. There are also many really good co stars and cameo appearances throughout the drama, too many to name. The music here is very good, like most dramas featuring Arashi members they do add their own songs to it, the opening song is "Wish" by Arashi. The insert song is "Planetarium" by Otsuka Ai which is used well in the emotionally dramatic scenes of the drama.

It’s real hard to find a weakness in this drama, I’ve seen many reviews that call this drama your typical J-Pop idols teenie bopper fan drama, where people love the actors more then the actual acting. But when you watch it objectively I think it’s one of the best by far, the story stays true to the manga/anime, the actors seem perfect for their roles and the music is great. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fall in love with Hana Yori Dango..
