Move through Fantasy and Reality while watching Asian Drama!
Description: The drama series is based on the manga and anime of the same name, both created by Fujisawa Tohru. The story is a sequel of lesser known series Shounan Jun'ai-gumi (Shounan Love Gang) where Onizuka Eikichi's rogue high school days are depicted. Sorimachi Takashi plays Onizuka Eikichi, a graduate of a third-rate University and the leader of a motorcycle gang, whose lifelong dream is to become a teacher. After being hired by a seemingly eccentric director, Onizuka begins his unconventional way of teaching a hopeless group of troublemakers. Although he meets much opposition from the students and teachers themselves, his passion for teaching, and more importantly, his students, eventually convinces everyone that Onizuka truly has the makings of a great teacher.
Almost gave this drama a 9 out of 10 but the more I thought about it the more I thought this classic should get a 10. GTO is the drama adaptation of the popular manga/anime and it does it with style. GTO really opened the door for a lot of dramas we have today that are similar, Gokusen, Rookies, Dragon Zakura and such that follow the trials of a flawed teacher and their job to teach flawed students that ultimately grows and bonds them together. An us against the world type of story, mixed with a lot of comedy, great character development and an addicting story. The cast stars the Tom Cruise of Japan, Sorimachi Takashi (HOTMAN, The Blue Wolf, Toshiie to Matsu) who plays the role of Onizuka. I honestly don’t think anyone could of played this role any better, his facial expressions were perfect in comparison to the anime/manga and his acting was superb. Another good actress like Matsushima Nanako (Ringu, HYD, Toshiie to Matsu) who is also the real life wife of Sorimachi, plays another teacher in the movie and love interest. Alone with a young cast of actors and actresses rounds out this great drama, even a young Oguri Shun gets his start here. The music is great, with an opening/insert song sung by the lead actor Sorimachi called "Poison" is really good.
GTO is one of my favs, I know a lot of JDrama fans who said this show really got them into becoming d-addicts and once you watch it you’ll see why..
