Can someone explain to me the beginning scene? Why is she so startled by the boxers? Didn't she give that to him jokingly as a gift in a previous scene?

Yeah, that was a bit confusing. If I'm not mistaken, in the scene where she's buying the underwear, she was buying them for the prison inmate that her Mother used to look after. When her mom died she took over the caring-for, thus buying him the undies. What she didn't know that shocks her is that he's the inmate that she was caring for, aka her uncle's "killer" or whatever

That policeman is worse than the criminals what a prat. What's up with the girl. Is she demented. Has she been damaged in the head at some point. She's certainly a few noodles short of a good lunch. It must be in the genes. The only sane ones are the Angel and perhaps the son. I so love this. Didn't think I would in the begining but its brilliant. Thanks for this. Very much appreciated. xx
