It was WJ's duty as a loving husband to help SY come out of this difficult situation as she was cornered, yes, in a predicament she created. Now, it may be too late. WJ now knows how much he loves her after hearing the whole story from her father, but it may too late for realizing it. WJ back then lost the opportunity to put into action the principle that a spouse will be there to support the other no matter what the situation is. Remember that there was a flashaback to an earlier episode when SY was pleading him to have the strength to understand her when a dark side of her is known.

WJ had that flashback of her asking for compassion when a dark side of her is known, but as much as he wants to genuinely help her it may be too late now. Nobody is perfect and this fact makes for a high quality family and love story. This drama elevates reality based love stories and family dramas to a higher level. It deals with issues of high and low of society in modern Korea that is unique to it.
